Zausmer employees recently went casual for a cause to support the Lupus Foundation of America.
Lupus is a chronic disease that can cause inflammation and pain in any part of the body. It’s an autoimmune disease, which means that the immune system—which usually fights infections—attacks healthy tissue instead.
The Lupus Foundation of America estimates that 1.5 million Americans, and at least five million people worldwide, suffer from some form of lupus. People with lupus can experience significant symptoms, such as pain, extreme fatigue, hair loss, cognitive issues, and other physical impairments. Many suffer from cardiovascular disease, strokes, disfiguring rashes, and painful joints.
The foundation works to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through research, education, support, and advocacy. They focus on achieving disease-specific outcomes, including:
- Reducing time to diagnosis
- Ensuring people with lupus have a variety of safe and effective treatments
- Expanding direct services and increase access to treatment.
