For more than 50 years, The Guidance Center has worked with local communities and schools across Southeastern Michigan to support adults and children experiencing mental health difficulties, abuse and neglect, and other challenges.
On September 22nd, attorneys Theresa Bodwin, Kaitlyn Cramer, Randi Davis, and Danielle DePriest represented Zausmer at The Guidance Center’s “Grape Expectations for Kids,” a charity event to raise funds for the agency and its “Kids Talk” counseling and advocacy program.
The audience heard the moving story of a husband and wife who sought custody of their nephew’s son after his father was killed during his service in Iraq. Sadly, the young boy was abused and neglected by his mother and her new boyfriend in Colorado, but when his family in Michigan discovered this situation, they brought him into their home. The Guidance Center and Kids Talk has helped him adjust to normal life in Michigan and empower him with the opportunity to discuss what happened with adults who care for him. The program has also assisted his new adoptive parents to understand the young teenager’s PTSD and nurture him as he adapts to school, extracurricular activities, and a loving family environment.
A special thanks to Randi Davis for taking the lead in the firm’s patronage of the Grape Expectations event. We were very proud to contribute to this worthy cause!
